Dr. Dixon Chibanda

Dixon Chibanda is the director of the African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI) which trains African researchers in mental, neurological and substance use disorder research in over 12 countries.
He is also the founder of the Friendship Bench Programme, a mental health initiative that trains community grandmothers to deliver cognitive behaviour therapy based PST from wooden park benches in over 100 communities in Zimbabwe.
He is an associate professor in global mental health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Professor in psychiatry at the University of Zimbabwe.
His interests focus on task shifting of mental health care and the use of indigenous knowledge to develop alternative mental health care programmes globally.
