Built to last: Integrating mental health for women and girls in a sector under pressure

2026 annual research report

This fourth annual report on women’s empowerment and mental health shows a field that remains deeply committed to this work, but under growing strain: more organizations are doing mental health and well-being work than at any point since 2023, while fewer have a dedicated budget for it. The report draws on contributions from 155 organizations and 760 practitioners across 100 countries.

This annualised research sits at the center of our ongoing work with Kate Spade New York and the Global Fund for Women’s Mental Health. In partnership, we developed the Flower Framework and ran the first global survey in 2023, establishing that mental health is foundational for empowerment but was not adequately integrated into the work carried out with women and girls. Four years on, this is one of the longest-running records of how that has changed.

Commitment is not the missing piece. The ambition is there; what is needed now is the sustained support to match it.
