The 2023 study ‘Women and girls: Empowerment through mental health’, funded by Kate Spade New York and conducted by Prospira Global, presented new research that underscored the foundational role that mental health plays in women’s empowerment and how it is currently integrated.
In 2024, Prospira Global and Kate Spade New York conducted a follow-up survey to assess the current landscape and how the integration of women and girls’ mental health has changed within the gender community. This report provides an overview of these findings.
“We hope that this research will support you in making the case to join us in increasing action and resources for sustaining and scaling women’s and girls’ mental health as a critical component to end equality work around the world. There is still work to be done.”

Research methodology
In 2024, we conducted the gender organization and practitioner surveys for the second time.
The organizational survey asked gender funders, implementers and advocates from across the world about their main areas of work and whether and how mental health is implemented into their programming, funding and structures.
We also asked gender practitioners about their opinions on the importance of integrating mental health into gender work and about respondents’ lived experience of a mental health. Questions were added to track changes that may have occurred in the past year within this intersection. Surveys were open from February 29 to May 6, 2024.
